Let’s get Published

As and English Major with a concentration in Poetry I have seen many fellow students try to get some of their work published only to find that they had to jump through hoops for the publishing house. At Author House you receive a free publishing guide before you submit any material. This lets you know what to expect when self publishing and gives you more freedom to publish what is true to your writing style. Check this link to order your free copy Publish a Book .

The Author House has been the leading self publishing company since 1997 and is dedicated to giving writers everything they need to know to publish. They set up the writer with a team of advisors for encouragement and guidance for things like royalties and marketing. The most important thing about Author House is that the writer chooses what they want. So if you would like to see what you have in print get your free publishing guide and see where Author House can take you.

I think the Movie sounds good

I recently received a  message not to let my children (which I don’t have) watch the upcoming movie “The Golden Compass”, because it was completly anti-christian.  I have seen the previews for this movie and was intrigued so I immediately went and purchased the book.  Has anyone else read the book?  I have just finished it and it in no way bashed religion.  It did however express an Idea called Dust.  Which pertains to the fact that as humans get older they discover more about what is right and wrong.  The adam and eve story is cited in the book stating that adam and eve had no Dust until they ate from the tree of knowledge.  I don’t know how closely the movie follows the book, but just like Harry Potter and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory this movie is based on fantastical fiction, and may be a bit on the extraordinary side with talking Polar Bears, Hot air balloon riding men, gyspies, and whiches which are all on a mission to save children.  Also there is the idea that one could travel between universes or planes if one could ride the Aurora (northern lights).  I haven’t read the other two books in the series, and the triliogy is called “His Dark Materials” but I didn’t understand why.  Maybe when I read the next two books I will find out.  And if the Author is an Atheist he has helped to deepen my faith in God because of the points he makes in his book that children are to young to understand.

Rowling Writes Again

It sounds like J.K. Rowling is not wanting to rest on her laurels. She has finished a new book and it has nothing to do with Harry Potter. This new book, “The Tales of Beedle the Bard,” was mentioned in the final Harry Potter book. It was a gift left by headmaster Albus Dumbledore to Hermione. I love how she intertwines stuff!

Only seven copies of the book are being printed. That means they are going to become very valuable. Her hope is that they will raise a lot of money for charity. One of the books was given to a charitable organization so it can be auctioned. The auction will raise money for that charity. The others were given away as gifts. Wouldn’t that be a wonderful gift to recieve?

The Golden Compass

I have been reading The Golden Compass. It is part of the His Dark Materials Trilogy. Philip Pullman wrote the three books The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass. These books tell tales of places where daemons and winged creatures live side by side with humans, and a mysterious entity called Dust just might have the power to unite the universes–if it isn’t destroyed first. This story tells the tale of an alternative world where people’s souls manifest themselves as animals, talking bears fight wars, and Gyptians and witches co-exist. The characters, Lyra, Pantalaimon, Will, and the rest embark on the most breathtaking, heartbreaking adventure of their lives. The fate of the universe is in their hands.

What Is The True Story?

There is a new book out that is causing quite a stir. David Michaelis, has written a book about Charles Schulz called Schulz and Peanuts. Charles Schulz created the Snoopy comic strip. The book points out how Schulz told a story through his comic strip. He thinks Schulz’s story was his way of releasing stress and moments of grief. Underlying themes of disappointment and unhappiness can be found, if you look for them.

Michaels was privy to Schulz’s personal files, professional archives and family.

Michaels tells a story about Schulz that is certainly more than Charlie Brown ever let us know.

Were Schulz comic strips telling his story or were they simply about a boy named Charlie Brown?

Read the book and tell me what you think.

Anne Rice

I have almost completed my Anne Rice book collection. I love her books. It was so cool to see her house when I was stationed in Louisiana.

I tried to get mom interested in her books. She read a couple of them and found she couldn’t sleep very well after reading them. LOL
